One of the important directives of Newport Jazz Club is to highlight and support the young emerging Island Jazz Musicians, who are after all the significant part of furthering and continuing jazz music.  Please support them.

This month we welcome two young bands to the concert: the Dominic Jones Quartet and ‘Pick-up 6’.

From the age of 23 Dominic Jones has been playing sax; in his own words, ‘ever since I watched Lisa play her saxophone on the Simpsons’.  Since then he has gone on to study jazz at Chichester College and graduate with a jazz degree from Middlesex University.  His influences include Bobby Wellins and Derek Nash.

Our youngest young talent yet is a 6-part ensemble, ‘Pick-Up 6’, led by Cameron Tarry.  Aged 15-16 they will have just completed their GCSE’s.   They met at around 11 years old and bonded over a love of music, and all joined the school jazz band in year 8.  Currently they are part of The Island Free School Senior Jazz Band with a repertoire ranging from early Dixieland jazz right up to this year’s pop songs.

Tickets are £5 and may be reserved by emailing [email protected], or phoning (01983) 523879 or 730601; or on the door if available.
