The Apollo Theatre has around 250 members and we always welcome new ones. We don’t just need people to perform on stage: we need members with all sorts of skills to get productions on stage and to run the theatre. For example, as well as actors and singers, we need carpenters, electricians, painters, designers, backstage crew, bar staff, front of house and box office volunteers, people to serve coffees and sell programmes and ice-creams, people good with their needles to help out in wardrobe and lots more. If you’d like to join us, we’d love to hear from you. It’s important, too, to remember that one of our rules is that only paid-up members can appear in shows on stage – so if you want to act with us (and we’d love to have you!) you’ll need to join up first.
We hold coffee mornings every other Saturday from 10.00-12.00 in the theatre bar where regular members are always on hand to show you around and let you know what we do. To find out a bit more about the theatre and how it works and meet some of the people involved, come along for a cup of coffee and a cake and a tour of the building. Click here for coffee morning dates.
There are work nights in the theatre every Monday and Tuesday evening from 7.30-9.00, and that’s another opportunity to meet some people and start to get involved. Or just come along to one of our productions – we’d love to meet you after the show.
We’re a very sociable lot, so quite apart from our annual season of shows there are lots of social events such as quiz nights, after-show parties, workshops and ‘Party Pieces’ evenings when members can put on short pieces for other members. Members who are involved in a show as volunteers in whatever role can also come to the final dress rehearsal before it goes up. It’s a great place to make friends and meet people.
Subscription to the Apollo Players is currently £20 for a full member, £10 for a student and £30 for a couple, renewable every year on 1 January (all these rates are half price if you join after 1 July).
If you’d like to join, download the membership application form here, complete it and send it to the membership secretary at this address:
